To become a trained pool lifeguard, you must have a certificate for either the pool lifeguard test or the professional lifeguard test. To take the tests, a test fee must be paid to the Danish Swimming with lifeguard class. The funds are used to update the lifeguard class judges as well as to administer the tests.
You can read more about the requirements for obtaining a certificate for the pool lifeguard test and the professional lifeguard test below. The owner of the swimming pool decides which test must be taken. The owner is typically the municipality, which can choose to delegate the decision to the bath master/hall inspector.
The pool lifeguard test
A passed pool lifeguard test gives a
certificate to work as a lifeguard in the facility in which the test is taken.
Instructors must have a pool lifeguard class if there are no lifeguards
working in the facility when teaching is held.
Age:
Anyone who turns 17 before the end of the
year can apply for the pool lifeguard test.
Clothing:
The pool lifeguard test must be
completed in the facility's lifeguard uniform or with a minimum of shorts and
T-shirt. Swimming goggles are not allowed.
Judge:
A judge with a valid license from the
Swimming with lifeguard
ALA can judge the Swimming with lifeguard class pool lifeguards class test. You can find a judge near you under Find a
judge.
Certificate:
After passing the certificate is sent via
e-mail. The sample can be paid for by Dankworth from the sample taker or via invoice.
The certificate is valid for one year and applies to the pool in which the
sample was taken. A sample can be transferred to another facility after a
thorough review of the other facility. A sample can never be transferred to a
facility that has a deeper pool depth than the pool where the sample was taken.
Where and how:
To take a pool lifeguard test, you can advantageously contact your local swimming pool or swimming club and ask them if you can take a pool lifeguard test together with the swimming pool or club. If this is not an option, you must contact a judge yourself who can take you to the test. You can find a judge near you under the Find a judge list.
You must make sure you find time in a swimming pool, as well as the necessary equipment for the deposition - a rescue dummy, a first aid training dummy and a training defibrillator. To take the pool lifeguard test, it is recommended that you have taken at least a 4–6-hour first aid course, but this is not a requirement.
